Reynolds was the son of a Baptist father who was a complete pack rat; from him, Reynolds gained an appreciation of natural resources and an affinity for freedom. While still a young man, Reynolds began creating unconventional structures that used waste – old tires, bottles, tin cans – in creating homes off the grid. Using nature as a heater and an air conditioner, he did not have the traditional wires and pipes in his homes; they were self-contained. Appealing to other free spirited people, his earthships were soon being featured in magazines and a change in bureaucracy gave him a bumpier ride than his truck on the way to a rocky work site.
The story of Noah in the Bible was an inspiration for Reynolds. Alone in the middle of a desert, with no water in sight, Noah kept building. Like Noah, Reynolds keeps building, even widening his circle of teaching to other young builders, people struck by the tsunami, and people afflicted by a hurricane in Mexico. Overcome by the devastation he was witnessing, Reynolds was motivated to work faster, try harder, and keep going. Witnessing his struggles, particularly with bureaucracy jordan retro 7, is a frustrating bit of viewing. "I had lost the freedom to fail," Reynolds said of his inability to experiment with new designs. But Reynolds is a truly creative spirit, one full of life and forward vision. A very well-done film about a most inspiring, original character and the important message he brings to us all.
Michael Reynolds, independent architect and innovative creator of the earthship structures, relates at the onset of Garbage Warrior that he felt like he was caught in a herd of buffalo headed straight for a cliff; he realized he needed to do something to steer the herd, for if the herd went over, he too would be killed. Envisioning a more dangerous future due to climate instability and man's impact on the earth, Reynolds sets out to design and build homes that will be self-sustaining, thereby freeing their occupants from the tragedy of events like Hurricane Katrina.

Oliver Hodge's Film is Warm and Engaging
Reynolds, a middle-aged man with a wild mane of gray hair, is seen at home in New Mexico, ill at ease in a suit in the State legislature, and working in other countries providing knowledge of his ecostructures. The camera is nearly invisible in the film, for Reynold's personality is bigger than the screen and engages the viewer throughout the film. With beautiful photography, tragic images of disasters, and great shots of a muddy truck winding down the New Mexico road, this is a film that is captivating from start to finish. The viewer is pulled into the action; the stark contrast of New Mexico's seasons seem appropriate backdrop.
