Coffey speaks of “opening a door” to the evil that lingers in the building. His impressions of malevolent spirits that have entered through satanic cult worship are corroborated by witness accounts of the events.
The trappings of cult worship, found in remnants of pentagrams, provide additional verification of his initial response. He visualizes a woman being stabbed to death in a large pentagram on the floor—the same exact area where the remnants of the pentagram are identified.
Coffey questions Ryan as to whether he prepared himself using religious protection rituals only to find that he had not. His warning that he should have, rings true when Ryan has an encounter later with an entity that roughly pushes him to the floor.

Ryan Buell, founder of the PRS, reports that a father and two adopted sons had moved into an old church building in Topeka, Kansas, when they were hired to renovate it. However, shortly after moving in, they experienced voices, shadows, apparitions and oppressive feelings. The sons shared that they feared for the well-being of their father, who had already suffered a couple of heart attacks and a stroke.
The rehab work had stopped because they could no longer endure it. Nor did they believe living in the church to be feasible. They called in the PRS in order to rid themselves of the problem.
