have announced the HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone that is due for release in June 2008. All handset manufacturers have been trying to come up with a device that blows the Apple iPhone out of the water, and HTC may just have come up with the goods!
The HTC Touch Diamond is a touch screen Windows Mobile 6.1 smart phone with TouchFLO 3D (an upgrade to the original TouchFLO gesture control system). It only measures 102 x 51 x 11.5mm and weighs in at 110 grams which is pretty small and light for a 3.5G smart phone. It does have a smaller screen than the iPhone but then the iPhone does have a VERY large screen. The HTC Touch Diamond still boasts a bigger than average screen measuring 2.8”, which also automatically flips from portrait to landscape orientations when the screen is rotated, just the same as the iPhone. The screen also has a VGA resolution display [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with only a small number of handsets currently on the market boasting this feature.
The front of the HTC Touch Diamond has a stylish shiny glass like finish, but the real design is on the back of the handset. The back looks similar to the Nokia Prism which makes the handset stand out from the crowd.
A bonus to the HTC Touch Diamond is that it includes Assisted-GPS, so you can hook it up with your favourite SatNav application such as Google Maps or TomTom. The iPhone doesn’t feature GPS at all, it simply has Google Maps.
An advantage of the HTC Touch Diamond is the 3.5G data which allows the handset to download data at speeds of up to 7.2MB per second. It also supports HSUPA giving the HTC Touch Diamond high speed uploads too!
Other features include EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 connectivity, FM radio, compatible with Microsoft Office documents [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], push email support, and audio and video playback via Windows Media Player.
