Perhaps the Chiefs will bounce back. They don’t play against another team that like Houston is currently in the top in the league in scoring until they get a rematch against the Chargers in San Diego in two months.

They were so [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] bad that it’s natural to wonder whether the first four games were a mirage and whether the days of horrendous defense are back. The answer could come as soon as their next game Sunday against Jacksonville at Arrowhead Stadium.

They maintained that into the second half in Houston, where they led 21-7 midway through the third quarter before they collapsed.

The Chiefs added the first 37 minutes of the Houston game to that list.
The reality is[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] that allowing the Texans a touchdown on each of their last four possessions opened some sores the Chiefs hoped were healed. In the fourth quarter alone, the Chiefs allowed more points — 21 — than they had in any of their first four full games of the season.
The Chiefs played so wel [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]l on defense through the first four games that they seemed beyond such a nightmare. A defensive stand near their goal line saved their win against San Diego. They shut out Cleveland in the second half the next week.

Had the recent past not been so horrible, the Chiefs could afford to look at their meltdown in the second half of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Sunday’s 35-31 loss at Houston as just one bad day.
Then they held the 49ers without [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a touchdown until the final moments before frustrating Indianapolis and holding one of the league’s highest-scoring teams to 19 points.

“I don’t think there’s anybody beyond that,” Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel said. “This is pro football. They’re going to make plays, and there are going to be times when (no) defense is beyond that. You can play bad, and unfortunately you’ve got to stand up to it after the game, own up to it and get better, and know that how you played last week or the week before has no bearing on how we’re going to play against Jacksonville.”
“They made a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] couple of great plays, we didn’t make a couple of plays we could have made, and then it became a shootout pretty quickly before I think guys really understood what had occurred.”
The Chiefs went to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Houston with a markedly improved defense that had carried them to a 3-1 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] record. The Chiefs were superior in almost every significant defensive statistical category, most notably points allowed. At the time, they had allowed fewer than 15 points per game.
That part of this is a relief. But the Chiefs won’t find total bliss until they prove to themselves that their sorry recent history is indeed just that.
Chiefs' defense looks to bounce back

“You’re going [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to have some losses you don’t like and aren’t fun and are difficult,” Chiefs coach Todd Haley said. “The important thing is that good teams don’t let those losses be a stumbling block. They allow them to be a springboard to bigger and better things and improvement.”
“At that point, you would have felt pretty good about how the defense had played,” Haley said. “Midway through the third quarter, I think you would say that we were doing things the way you had to do them.
“When you have explosive players like (the Texans) have,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], things can happen that can hurt you,” Haley said.
“I’ve got to take my hat off to them. That is a good offense, maybe the best offense we’ll see.”

“They’re capable of making plays even when you do things the way you have to do them. This Andre Johnson, I don’t know if there’s anybody better than him. He’s a big-time receiver.
