As most melody sweethearts know, the band has gone via more lives than a roomful of cats. This tour marks the bands first with original lead musician Roth in over two decades. The band dumped Roth as their musician and brought sometime solo rocker Sammy Hagar into the fold in 1986. Hagar led the band via their most commercially successful time, yet was then evicted in 1996 emulating a much-publicized difference. Hagars replacement, ex-Extreme guide musician Gary Cherone, was follows the band for a few albums, but then left.
Since Hagar left in 1996, Van Halen has floundered a morsel commercially. Their final few albums bombed, and they havent been capable to clutch on to a lead singer. The band members havent been completely out of the spotlight, whatsoever. Roth and Hagar grouped up for their short-lived Sam and Dave Tour in 2002; Roth took over as the host of Howard Sterns morning radio show among much media hype in 2005, only to depart a few months later, and the brothers Van Halen have seen their own share of media consideration. Eddie Van Halen has fought cancer, survived the divorce from Valerie Bertinelli, his wife of 20+ years, and entered rehab only a few weeks ahead the band made their tour announcement. Original bassist Michael Anthony has combated his own drug demons and will be going on tour with Sammy Hagar this fall.
Roth has had his share of feuds with the brothers Van Halen as well. They reunited briefly at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996, where they received a lifetime finishing reward. Even that concise reunion was tenseEddie Van Halen claimed that Roth was trying to embezzle the spotlight during the bands approval discourse, and the feud proceeded. Many fans had initially wished that their arrival at the VMAs would lead to some variety of reunion announcement shortly thereafter. Tour, album, it really didnt matter. The best the band could do was loosen a greatest hits collection with 2 current anthems with Roth on vocals.
